"Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest." Matthew 11:28
Since the fall that broke my foot and slashed my hands on broken glass, rest has been a requirement for those injuries to heal. Especially at 57, I'm finding more rest is needed than in my younger days.
Healing zaps a lot of energy that I'm used to expending through work, meeting with people, errands, and household chores. I've drastically cut back these activities.
The first day after my fall, I scheduled doctor appointments with hand and foot specialists, and then cancelled client meetings and book events.
I haven't been to church, grocery shopping, bike rides, or walks on the beach. Gasp! My sweet hubby has taken on more responsibility for household chores and shopping.
And even if I have to type with one finger, I'm actually writing more. To some degree, writing energizes me. Plus, I'm using my laptop on the sofa!
So, I'm thinking a lot about how much we need REST -- even when we're not injured.
Here are 3 GREAT REASONS TO REST:
1. Recharge the body. Every day we recharge our cell phones. If we're using them overtime, we need to recharge more often. Our bodies need recharged too! We're only human, after all. Our bodies work hard to keep us alive, working, and moving.
GOD designed the Sabbath to provide rest for our bodies He determined day and night - a time for activity and a time for sleep. Rest on the Sabbath, get plenty of sleep, and take time off to recharge our exhausted bodies.
2. Rejuvenate the mind. All day long, our minds tackle important tasks, compute crucial calculations, and determine decisions based on data both monumental and minute. Our minds work overtime and need a time out!
God designed prayer to provide rest and relief for our overloaded minds. Practice the peace of giving all our burdens to God in prayer. Rest on his promises to rejuvenate our tired minds.
3. Revive the soul. Every emotion we experience affects our souls. The very essence of who we are resides in our heart and soul. Our faith, character, and beliefs live here -- along with the heavy responsibility of staying true to those values.
God designed the Bible to provide rest for our souls. Feeding on His Holy Word uplifts our souls with encouragement and empowers us to follow His path, plan, and purpose for our lives. Rest in His grace, joy, and love to revive our weary souls.
"Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls." Matthew 11:29
