Living Green!

“The righteous will flourish like a palm tree… planted in the house of the Lord… They will still bear fruit in old age, they will stay fresh and green

Psalm 92:12-14

Happy March! Shamrocks and leprechauns, cabbage and green beer, and of course, the green buds and leaves that promise spring is coming!

What does green mean to you?

Maybe, like me, it means God’s green earth, the plants and trees and vegetation that make the world beautiful and vibrant.

“The land produced vegetation: plants bearing seed according to their kinds and trees bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good.”

Genesis 1:12

The environment also comes to mind, ways to live green and protect the planet.

“The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden

to work it and take care of it.”

Genesis 2:15

Eating green promotes healthy choices of clean foods -- organic plants free of chemicals and additives.

“'And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds in the sky and all the creatures that move along the ground—everything that has the breath of life in it— I give every green plant for food.' And it was so.”

Genesis 1:30

Greenbacks, or American dollars, represent saving, spending, or making money. God blesses us with prosperity and abundance, so we must trust in Him, not in the money He gives.

It’s tempting to think we earned our money, God didn’t just give it to us like some holy inheritance.

While it’s true that most of us work hard to earn a living, it’s also true that God gave us the abilities and skills needed. He gave us the brains, bodies, intelligence and talents that we use to make our living and provide for ourselves and our families.

We can do nothing without Him.

“Those who trust in their riches will fall, but the righteous will thrive like a green leaf.”

Proverbs 11:28

May we all stay fresh and green, living righteous in the Lord.

“But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him.

They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.”

Jeremiah 17:7

Is green your favorite color? Just a color in the basic box of eight crayons? Or not really a fan?
