Breaking Free

"For the Lord is the Spirit, and wherever the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom."

2 Corinthians 3:17

Looking down from heaven, Kate watched her granddaughter Rachel struggle to get her young daughter to dress for school.

"Please, Jessica," Rachel pleaded. "If you don't get dressed now, you're going to miss the bus."

"I don't care!" Jessica threw herself onto the floor, kicking and screaming, "I don't wanna go to school!"

Kate chuckled. "Oh how that one reminds me of myself."

"Ah, yes." Beside her, Jesus agreed with a smile. "Before you broke free."

Kate nodded with remembering. Jesus knew her then, and knew her now. His grace and love brought her more joy in heaven than she'd ever imagined on earth.

Back in the day - back on earth, that is - she and her husband John had raised horses.

"You needed breaking worse than those horses did!" John elbowed her from the other side.

"And you made sure I knew it, didn't you?" Kate muttered.

"Now, now," Jesus teased. "All of God's children need to break free." He gently smoothed Kate's hair. Delicious tingles filled her as love radiated from Him.

"Just like horses who fight for their own way and buck the rider. Once broken, horse and rider move in coordination to accomplish a purpose or reach a destination." John pointed out a magnificent white stallion prancing by with an angel riding side saddle.

"Yes." Kate grinned fondly at John. "And when I finally prayed for God's will in my life, He broke my will to have my own selfish way. He led me in beautiful coordination to accomplish His best purpose for me." She took John's hand, remembering the wonderful life and family they'd built together. "And by the way, God's purpose gave me complete fulfillment and utter JOY because He filled every desire in me, and best used the gifts and talents HE created in me."

"You were no longer fighting and struggling." Jesus took her other hand, guiding her into a graceful waltz. "Then you moved in a beautifully coordinated dance with Our Father leading your every step."

"And look at your ultimate destination!" John threw his hands into the glittering air of heaven.

"Thank you, Lord," Kate breathed, "for bringing about Your will in my life, and allowing me to break free at last!"

"So if the son sets you free, you are truly free." John 8:36

“Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think.”
