Blessed Today

Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

New Year's resolutions, goals, plans, and striving for improvement mark our minds each January. Fitness gurus, fad diets, and fancy planners grab our attention while gyms, meal plans, and self-improvement books make a mint.

Human nature - or is it American culture? - strives and hustles for more or less, bigger or better, updated or repurposed. Both materialistic and minimalist mindsets constantly want something different... something else... rather than what we have.

As we round out the month of January, let's consider how we are already blessed.

Rather than focusing on what we think is better (although it's often not), let's re-focus on what we have today.

No one on this earth lacks problems in some area of life -- including the rich and famous. Money helps ease some burdens, but often creates others. When I was growing up in poverty, my mom always said, "Rich people always worry about losing their money." Ain't that the truth?!

My family has been blessed in recent years, yet there's always concern over losing what we have. Will our house or IRAs lose value? Will our income remain stable in an uncertain economy? Will our family remain healthy?

Newsflash: The economy has never been truly stable. It fluctuates constantly, even in the best of times. Wealth and health are never guaranteed. Yet -- God is in control.

Let's trust in Him to provide and care for us. Let's do our best to be good stewards. And let's enjoy the blessings we have today,

What blessings are you enjoying TODAY? Let's share in the comments.
