Face to Face

"For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known." 1 Corinthians 13:12

Pinching herself, Kate James still couldn't believe she was in heaven at last. With all the craziness on earth, she sympathized with her family still bound by time and space. Pandemics and disease, politics and destruction, paranoia and destruction filled the earth below.

People wore masks to protect themselves from catching a disease from one another.

People worked in their houses and talked to each other through computers and taught their children at home while teachers checked in through some crazy network connection.

The world was not right. People weren't meant to be isolated like that.

What ever happened to face to face communication, a hand shake, or a hug?

Jesus walked up to Kate and wrapped an arm around her shoulders.

"What are you thinking of, Katie?"

She looked into the soulful eyes of her Savior. "Lord, you know all things. You know what I am thinking."

"Yes, my sister. I know." He grinned as He read her thoughts.

"But you just like to hear me say it." Kate shared what she knew He knew.

"Your family will be here soon enough. And you will see them face to face. You know that." Jesus smiled with His eyes.

Kate remembered the verse she'd learned as a young girl. "Then we shall see face to face," she recited the scripture.

She knew every plane of Jesus' perfect face. She knew the exact color of His eyes and the texture of His hair.

Better than that, she felt - truly felt - all the love He had for her.

She knew His love - not from memorized verses or sermons in church, not even from prayer and Bible study. She knew His love fully from experiencing Him face to face.

And she was fully known.

Yet Jesus held no resentment or judgment or even memory of her sins and failures.

She knew more grace and love and peace than she'd ever been able to imagine.

She was fully known - as a fully forgiven child of God.

And every day for all of eternity, she talked with Jesus.

Face to face.
